Not just Tulasi, Vitamin C rich substances are known to boost immunity. So taking hot Lemon or Amla (Indian Gooseberry) powder mixed with hot water would be very helpful.

Indian herbs Tulsi can help keep swine flu away:
Ayurvedic experts Lucknow, May 27: Wonder herb Tulsi can not only keep the dreaded swine flu at bay but also help in fast recovery of an afflicted person, Ayurvedic practitioners claim. "The anti-flu property of Tulsi has been discovered by medical experts across the world quite recently. Tulsi improves the body's overall defence mechanism including its ability to fight viral diseases. It was successfully used in combating Japanese Encephalitis and the same theory applies to swine flu," Dr U K Tiwari, a herbal medicine practitioner says.

Apart from acting as a preventive medicine in case of swine flu, Tulsi can help the patient recover faster.
"Even when a person has already contracted swine flu, Tulsi can help in speeding up the recovery process and also help in strengthening the immune system of the body," he claims.

Dr Bhupesh Patel, a lecturer at Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar is also of the view that Tulsi can play an important role in controlling swine flu.
"Tulsi can control swine flu and it should be taken in fresh form. Juice or paste of at least 20-25 medium sized leaves should be consumed twice a day on an empty stomach."

This increases the resistance of the body and, thereby, reduces the chances of inviting swine flu.

Preventive methods for killer disease "SWINE FLUE"
*Use Nilgiri Oil In your handkerchiefs.
*Using masks

How to be safe:
School and college goers and people who go out to work are at a higher risk of contracting the infection. People who live in air-conditioned, closed environments are more likely to catch the disease.

You might be sharing a telephone, computer or books with an infected person. People traveling abroad should also be little cautious.

Use disposable tissues, always cover your mouth and nose while coughing and sneezing, and dispose of your waste carefully.

There is always some virus on tabletops, telephones and computers. So try not to touch your eyes, nose and mouth frequently.

Washing and sanitizing your hands frequently is a very effective way of staying away from the infection. Alcohol-based gel or foam hand sanitizers are very efficient in killing these viruses.

There is no restriction on food and drinks as Swine flu is not a food borne illness. Swine flu is transmitted by airborne droplets from an infected person's sneeze or cough; or from germs on hands, or germ-laden surfaces.

Wearing a well-fitted mask in public places is also advisable. But only a mask can’t save you from the disease.

Drink loads of water and get enough sleep. Sleep derivation is an unhealthy habit and can affect your immune system too.

Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

Stay away (3-feet distance) from people who have a respiratory infection.

Ventilate and allow the entry of sun in the house and all enclosed places.

Make sure areas like the kitchen and restrooms are clean.

If you have already got it: If you are a confirmed case of Swine flu, then confine yourself to a room. Wearing a mask is a must.

Keep yourself away from social gathering, your work place and other public places, to avoid spreading the infection to others.

Swine flu is most contagious in the initial five days. In the case of children, it can be contagious up to 10 days.

'There will be flat growth after rebound'

Raghuram Rajan, the former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, chaired a committee on financial sector development in India that submitted a slew of bold and innovative proposals in April last year. Mr Rajan, who teaches at University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, spoke to ET NOW’s senior editor. Excerpts of the interview:

There is considerable thought being spent on the kind of recovery the global economy will show — V-shaped, W-shaped? Do you see any recovery at all?
We’re going to see fairly strong growth over the next couple of quarters, as the rebound from the fall in inventories starts happening, and as the stimulus starts kicking in both the US and Europe. There will be relatively flat growth after the rebound. I’m not sure what shape of letter this is.

Investment banks are making a lot of trading profits, because of the spread between 10-year and two-year bond maturities at a time when most of them have received taxpayers’ bailouts.
Yes, isn’t it wonderful what a zero-interest rate at the short end of the curve does for your profits. I mean, people don’t recognise that this is a big subsidy that banks are getting from all savers. The question is that is the subsidy enough? If I were a regulator, I would have put more effort into making sure that banks don’t pay it out as bonuses. By all means assure your employees that they will be well rewarded, if they stay with you for the longer run, but give them equity positions in the firm.

What do you make of the argument that for the US consumer to do anything much, the housing sector must improve first?
It’s not so much housing to my mind as it’s job losses, and I think that job losses loom particularly large in the US consumers’ mind, because if you lose your job, you lose healthcare, and unemployment benefits don’t last very long. If job losses abate, income is assured and it’s not so much wealth as income, it seems to be that we can expect the US consumer to start spending more.

Right now China is looking to get out of its current mess by blowing some new bubbles. Do you agree with that?
I don’t know if they deliberately want to blow a bubble. They are doing what they know best — to increase investment by state-owned banks. The problem, of course, is that we don’t know if this investment is over-investment. Investing in more of the same, which they already have plenty of, or if this is building up to overcapacity, which will depress prices down the line. China’s greater imperative is to increase household consumption.

Tweak IE7 to run Faster

There are 4 tweaks for IE7 so that the loading of site is faster. Doing these tricks will not hamper your security or setting changes. These tricks are done only on the unnecessary overheads on the IE7.

1) Turn off Phishing Filter : This feature is only protective to you to access the junk or malefic sites, it has been found that this feature slows down the loading of webpage. I think one can surf without this extra costly protection.
It can be disabled here in IE7: Tools > Phishing Filter > Turn off automatic website checking, there turn it off.

2) Disble automatically checking for RSS feeds. Most users are not availing this facility provided in IE7, so it's better to turn it off.
How to do it: Tools > Internet Options > Content > Feeds > Settings > uncheck all the boxes shown there.

3) Remove "ClearType" useage in IE7, it will slow IE7 performance. Disable the Cleartype in IE7:
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > find the option "ClearType for HTML*" > uncheck that.

4) Disable the "SSVHelper Class plugin": This plugin causes browsing delays, do it here
Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons > Select "SSVHelper Class", click the Disable button, and then click OK.

Swine Flu : Know everything about it

What is the swine flu?
The swine influenza A (H1N1) virus that has infected humans in the U.S. and Mexico is a novel influenza A virus that has not previously been identified in North America. This virus is resistant to the antiviral medications amantadine (Symmetrel) and rimantadine (Flumadine), but is sensitive to oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza). Investigations of these cases suggest that on-going human-to-human swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is occurring.
Swine flu was first detected in Mexico where it has claimed 150 lives so far. Caused by influenza Type A virus, it has since spread to parts of the US, Canada and Europe, and West Asia.

What are the symptoms of swine flu?
Although uncomplicated influenza-like illness (fever, cough or sore throat) has been reported in many cases, mild respiratory illness (nasal congestion, rhinorrhea) without fever and occasional severe disease also has been reported. Other symptoms reported with swine influenza A virus infection include vomiting, diarrhea, myalgia, headache, chills, fatigue, and dyspnea. Conjunctivitis is rare, but has been reported. Severe disease (pneumonia, respiratory failure) and fatal outcomes have been reported with swine influenza A virus infection. The potential for exacerbation of underlying chronic medical conditions or invasive bacterial infection with swine influenza A virus infection should be considered

How can swine (H1N1) flu be prevented?
The best way to prevent swine flu would be the same best way to prevent other influenza infections, and that is vaccination. When a safe vaccine is developed (projected to happen in a few months), people should get vaccinated if the disease is still causing infections. The CDC says that a good way to prevent any flu disease is to avoid exposure to the virus; this is done by frequent hand washing, not touching your hands to your face (especially the nose and mouth), and avoiding any close proximity to or touching any person that may have flu symptoms. Since the virus can remain viable and infectious for about 48 hours on many surfaces, good hygiene and cleaning with soap and water or alcohol-based hand disinfectants are also recommended. Some physicians say face masks may help prevent getting airborne flu viruses (for example, from a cough or sneeze), but others think the better use for masks would be on those people who have symptoms and sneeze or cough.

The use of Tamiflu or Relenza may help prevent the flu if taken before symptoms develop or reduce symptoms if taken within about 48 hours after symptoms develop. However, taking these drugs is not routinely recommended for prevention because investigators suggest that as occurs with most drugs, flu strains will develop resistance to these medications. Your doctor should be consulted before these drugs are prescribed.

In general, preventive measures to prevent the spread of flu are often undertaken by those people who have symptoms. Symptomatic people should stay at home, avoid crowds, and take off from work or school until the disease improves or medical help is sought. Sneezing, coughing, and nasal secretions need to be kept away from other people; simply using tissues and disposing of them will help others. Quarantining patients is usually not warranted, but such measures depend on the severity of the disease.
